Brian Mitchell MP, Federal Member for Lyons has welcomed funding from the Albanese Labor Government’s Disaster Ready Fund to the Meander Valley, equipping the council with an emergency response trailer.
The trailer will be equipped with various response and recovery related equipment to improve the council’s ability to react in a timely manner to emergency events.
$16,500 invested by the Disaster Ready Fund will be matched by the Tasmanian Government.
Through the Albanese Government’s new Disaster Ready Fund, funding is being invested over five years to build critical projects that will reduce disaster risk, help to reduce recovery costs and strengthen community resilience across Australia, including in the Meander Valley.
“The Meander Valley will now have an additional resource to aid them support their residents if disaster was to occur”. Mr Mitchell said.
Of course, I would hope they never need to use it, but sadly we know that due to climate change, these natural events are more common, and being prepared is key.
“Disaster Ready funding of more than $14 million has been assigned to Tasmania,” Mr Mitchell said.
“It includes upgrades to the Tas Alert app, The Tasmanian Hazards Notification System and flood intelligence modelling statewide. The Labor Government’s plan is to prepare better, so we are in a better position to recover quickly.”
