Mitchell calls on Prime Minister to stop chip dumping

The Morrison government needs to step up and stop the dumping of frozen potato chips into the state, which would decimate the local industry says Labor Member for Lyons, Brian Mitchell.

‘Tasmania produces 75 per cent of Australia’s potato crop. If the Prime Minister allows this to happen he’s wiping out Tasmanian businesses and destroying Tasmanian jobs,’ says Mr Mitchell.

‘Dumping falls foul of international trade law and potato farmers, processors and workers have the right to expect that the Government will fight for them

‘I’ve spoken with the AMWU, which represents Tasmania’s potato processing workers, and will be writing to the Prime Minister asking for him to intervene to stop this dumping.

‘We need the Federal Government to support Tasmanian produce and workers, especially right now when we’re all doing it tough.’
