BRIAN MITCHELL MP
LABOR MEMBER FOR LYONS
I am deeply disappointed by the Federal Government’s decision not to posthumously award Tasmanian World War II hero Teddy Sheean a Victoria Cross, a decision that flies in the face of a recommendation from the independent Defence Honours and Awards Tribunal.
Teddy Sheean, who was born in Lower Barrington in the north west of my electorate, demonstrated remarkable bravery in the face of death, representing the very best of Australian values.
The Federal Government’s decision has rightly drawn condemnation from MPs and Senators from all sides of politics.
Teddy Sheean deserves a Victoria Cross and I call on the Federal Government to correct its dreadful error.
