Minister Elise Archer is being too cute by half.
She insisted on asking every resident of the Meander Valley municipality if they wanted a new maximum security prison built at Westbury but now hints she won’t release the findings of her survey to the Tasmanian public (Mercury, April 25).
That really is not good enough.
If you are going to go to the trouble and expense of asking people their views, the least you owe them is to be open and transparent with the results.
It’s not hard — how many survey letters went out, how many came back, how many for and how many against?
The Tasmanian public, and especially the residents of Westbury, have a right to know.
